Sacrificial protection works by sacrificing itself to preserve the base steel, even after the material has been cut. As a result, oxidation of the zinc layer forms a sealed barrier that re-covers the exposed surface. Galvanized steel also adds aesthetic value, producing a tidy finish with minimal spangle.
